The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to remove the system loss charge from consumers' electric bills.

According to ERC, they are prepared to collaborate with the House of Representatives and other stakeholders to create necessary legal and regulatory measures related to the proposed reform.

In the 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA), this is one of the most applauded topics brought up by President Bongbong Marcos Jr.

In the exclusive interview with the House Committee on Energy Chairperson and Palawan Rep. Jose Alvarez, he was delighted when the President brought up this topic. He also believed that this would be a great benefit for the Filipinos.

“Pinakamagandang nangyari ito sa Pilipino. Kasi hindi lang yung pagtanggal ng systems loss, kasi yung systems loss may VAT pa yun. Kaya pumalakpak lahat ang tao at saka yung Pilipino talaga ang makinabang nito,” he said

[“This is the best thing that could happen to the Filipinos. Because this is not just the removal of systems loss, because the systems loss has a VAT. That’s why the people gave their round of applause, and the Filipino will truly benefit from this.”]

According to Alvarez, it is no longer necessary for the President to issue an Executive Order to eliminate the system loss charge. He noted that the action from the ERC is enough through issuing an order directing electric distribution companies to stop passing the charge on to the consumers.

“Kung kailangan balangkasin ’yan, ang ERC (na) lang magbigay ng order. Hindi na kailangan si Presidente mag-executive order,” he said
