The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended classes in affected areas following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao to ensure student safety.

According to the agency, the suspension aims to “prioritize evacuation, aftershock monitoring, damage assessment, safety and disaster response.” Hence, the DepEd emphasizes that students and teachers must not be forced to conduct classes while their areas remain unsafe.

The education department assures that classes will immediately resume once conditions are deemed safe.

“Maaaring makabalik sa paaralan ang mga learners kapag idineklara nang ligtas ang kanilang paaralan matapos ang inspeksyon at assessment,” according to DepEd

The DepEd also clarifies that, amid face-to-face class suspension due to ongoing inspection and assessment, students may continue learning through modules and worksheets
