The Baguio City LGU launched a drive collecting unused tumblers and lunch boxes and distributing them to students, instead of purchasing single-use plastic bottled water
Under the implemented initiative, the city collected 406 reusable tumblers and 183 washable lunch boxes from September 27 to October 4, 2026, during the Ecological Solid Waste Management Sustainability Fair.
The drive aims to encourage youth to bring their own water and eco-friendly containers. According to the local government, the initiative will also help limit the production of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles.
“The city wants to encourage the children to bring their water from their homes and schools to provide water for refill of containers so that we can reduce the production of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles,” City Information Officer Aileen Refuerzo said
The initiative was led by the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office in coordination with Mil-an National High School in Barangay Loakan.
