Following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela, the country will need additional assistance to recover from the destruction left by the natural hazard.

Despite the challenges, the government continues its efforts to address the immediate needs of affected communities.

Disaster relief operations remain ongoing including distribution of food, water, and essential assistance, and the deployment of healthcare services.

The World Food Programme, Red Cross, and other humanitarian organizations also joined to support affected communities. Rescue teams from 27 countries also continue the search operations.

“We continue working. At this hour, we have eight active sites where we have detected that there may be survivors. National and international rescue teams have been activated as well as healthcare systems to save lives as quickly as possible,” said Acting President Delcy Rodriguez

Rodriguez also visits quake-hit areas to gain information regarding the condition of the affected people.

Meanwhile, the United Nations at World Health Organization have warned regarding the potential spread of infectious diseases due to crowded evacuation centers and destroyed healthcare facilities.

UN agencies have also appealed for additional funding to sustain food distribution, construct temporary shelters, and provide medical services for survivors.
