Sen. Bato to minority: “Huwag silang atat na atat”

May 14, 2026 6:36 PM
PST

Minority Senators Risa Hontiveros, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Vicente “Tito” Sotto, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino have filed proposed Senate Resolution 395, urging Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to surrender to authorities following the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The resolution states that the Senate doesn’t have the authority to grant protective custody.

For Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, all legal remedies within the Philippines should be used first.

“Senator Bato should be given the opportunity to exhaust all legal remedies,” he said

In an interview, Sen. Bato dela Rosa responded to the resolution filed by the minority, saying:

"Hindi ko pa nabasa. Pero kung ang meant niyan ay pag-surrender, makiusap rin ako sa kanila na huwag masyado kayong atat na atat na makulong ako. Hintayin lang ninyo. Pabigyan lang niyo ako ng tsansa na i-avail yung remaining legal remedies na puwede kong i-avail. So, huwag din silang atat na atat."

Armed Forces of the Philippines General Romeo Brawner Jr. stated that the gunshots heard inside the senate building did not come from their group.

The Marine Security and Escort Group personnel at the building on Wednesday night (May 13, 2026) were on duty as the Senate’s security detachment.

According to Brawner, the Office of the Sergeant at Arms (OSAA) allegedly started the gunfire. Based on the confirmation report from the commander deployed that night, the AFP didn’t initiate the gunshot.

He further stated that the incident wouldn’t lead to destabilization, as it is clear in the directive that all military personnel should remain calm, disciplined, and professional.
