PASAY CITY—The Philippine National Police deployed approximately 1,500 personnel to the Senate on Wednesday night following a chaotic incident involving a volley of gunfire within the premises.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. arrived at the scene shortly after 9:00 PM to personally oversee the situation and meet with Senate leadership.

The massive security presence aims to stabilize the area as the building remains under lockdown amidst a high-stakes standoff involving an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.

Verification and assessment are currently underway to determine the source and circumstances of the gun fires, which sent lawmakers and staff taking cover.

While initial reports indicate no casualties, the incident has triggered a firestorm of accusations between Senate officials and law enforcement agencies.
