Hussein Loraña and Jessa Mae Roda spearheaded a flurry of double-gold performances June 15, dominating their respective 1,500-meter events at the ICTSI Philippine Open at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
Loraña executed a thrilling late-race surge, breaking away in the final 80 meters to capture the men’s 1,500m crown in 3:49.12 just a day after securing the 800m title.
Minutes later, Roda mirrored his golden success, registering a dominant 4:37.01 finish in the women’s 1,500m to add to her earlier victory in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Joining them as a dual-champion was Rica Balderama, who leaped 12.42 meters to seize the women's triple jump gold following her previous triumph in the long jump.
The relay events closed out the competition with high-octane drama as the national men's 4x400m team composed of Mico del Prado, Frederick Ramirez, Alrhyan Labita, and Kharis Pantonial clocked 3:13.25 to outpace silver-medalist KG Mercuries (3:14.31) and bronze-winner Team España (3:18.68).
In the women's division, the La Salle-Taft quartet of Ashley Mecel Tabad, Jamaica Kate Saligan, Erica Marie Ruto, and Lea Krizdea Ordinario locked down their own gold medal, commanding the 4x400m relay with a sharp winning time of 3:56.78.
