MANILA—The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has officially expanded its medal pipeline, ratifying six National Sports Associations (NSAs) to Regular Member status during its 4th General Assembly.
The structural upgrade grants these governing bodies full voting rights, deeper access to national funding, and a direct pathway to represent the Philippines in upcoming global multi-sporting events.
The strategic elevation aligns directly with POC President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino’s blueprint to maximize Team Philippines' podium finishes at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and upcoming continental games.
Here are the 6 newly elevated sports associations set to boost the country's international medal chances:
- Floorball — A high-octane, six-on-six indoor sport combining the rapid strategy of ice hockey with indoor court agility has steadily built its mark across Asia.
- Sport Climbing — A high-octane vertical sprint combining Speed, Bouldering, and Lead climbing. After a breakout debut at the Tokyo Games, the discipline is firmly locked in as a core medal sport for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program.
- Lacrosse — A fast-paced, high-scoring team discipline played with netted sticks. The sport is set for a historic, highly anticipated return to the Olympic stage at LA 2028 after more than a century off the official schedule.
- Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) — As the world’s fastest-growing full-contact combat sport, MMA made a successful debut at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and serves as a core medal event at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).
- Teqball — A dynamic, acrobatic soccer-table tennis hybrid that uses a curved table. The fast-growing sport has quickly gained momentum across the Asian Beach Games and regional international meets.
- Kabaddi — An ancient, high-intensity contact sport famously recognized for its single-breath "raider" chanting. The discipline remains a perennial medal-yielding powerhouse at the Asian Games.
By granting these associations full regular membership, the POC secures the administrative and financial backing needed for these sports to develop elite grassroots talent and secure podium finishes on the world stage.
