The Philippine National Police (PNP) warns the public against sellers offering water purification products. Most of the strategies include phone calls, social media marketing, and house-to-house visits to sell their products.

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group is set to strengthen its monitoring of online scams that may take advantage of public fears of possible water shortages due to super El Niño.

These include deceptive marketing schemes involving water purification products that could be used to deceive consumers.

In line with this, regional and local police units will coordinate with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), local governments, and other concerned agencies to address possible issues of water supply, including hoarding, overpricing, and consumer fraud.

The PNP also calls to public to report any suspicious sellers and advertisements to authorities.
