Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has directed police units in Mindanao in relation to the preparations for the upcoming BARMM elections in September.

The PNP is particularly monitoring around 27 concerned election areas under the red category. These areas include several municipalities — Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Magindanao del Norte, and Magindanao del Sur.

This directive follows the statements from the Commission on Elections, where they identified that these locations face serious security threats due to the presence of communist terrorists and some armed threat groups.

In line with this, PGen. Nartatez stated that he has ordered the local police to intensify police visibility, checkpoints, and intelligence gathering to detect and prevent potential threats.
