House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos denied that his proposed no work, no pay bill targets any particular lawmaker in Congress.
He said the measure aims to address the longstanding issue of absenteeism among some congressmen and senators, which affects the legislative process.
Marcos added that Speaker and Isabela 6th District Representative Faustino "Bojie" Dy III supports his proposed legislation.
The presidential son filed the bill on January 27, 2026, seeking to withhold salaries from congressmen or senators who fail to report for work and perform their legislative duties.
When asked if the bill was targeting anyone specific, Marcos dismissed the suggestion.
"I'm not singling anyone out. I think this is just the right step forward for the legislature as an institution. It's no secret that there have been cases of absenteeism and people not showing up to committee hearings or joining debates on the floor. Generally, the more people debate on legislation, the better quality legislation is produced. So really, we're just trying to make sure that the best laws are passed for the Filipino people," Marcos said.
