The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is now collaborating with the Navotas City Local Government Unit (LGU) in the firefighting operations at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill.

The LGU coordinated with the JICA technical team on Friday, April 24, 2026,  to discuss effective strategies, such as fire suppression and slope stabilization, to address the persistent problem brought by the fire incident in the landfill.

JICA recommends focusing on suppression efforts in the landfill’s slopes - from the bottom upward - as the oxygen primarily goes there.

Currently, the ground remains on fire, continuing to emit smoke, affecting the air quality of the nearby locations.
