Following the violence that happened in San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, the prosecutor's office already decided to file charges against the policewoman who owned the gun used in the shooting incident.

Police Staff Sergeant Arla Ray Pacencia may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and physical injuries.

The  Philippine National Police (PNP) supports the decision of the prosecutor's office as it serves as a lesson and reminder for gun owners to be responsible in handling their own firearms.

“Ito po ay makakapagpaalala sa ating mga registered gun owners lalo na sa ating mga kapulisan and other law enforcement agencies na humawak po ng baril na ingatan po ng ating baril and there are consequences sa hindi po nating pag-iingat sa ating mga armas,” PNP Public Information Office Acting Chief, PCol. Allen Rae Co said

PCol. Co also mentioned that even though PSSg Pecencia didn’t intend for the tragedy to happen, she must still be held accountable for the negligence.

“Siguro wala namang intensyon yung may-ari ng baril yung atin pong policewoman na of course na magamit ito sa ganitong karumal-dumal na insidente. Pero dahil nga sa kapabayaan, sa hindi tamang pag-iingat sa kanyang issued firearm ay ito nga ang naging resulta,” he said

Hence, PCol. Co reminded all firearm owners to properly secure their weapons.
