The decision to execute setup changes in the defense panel will depend on Vice President Sara Duterte.
This comes after the Presiding Officer, Senator-judge Francis “Chiz” Escudero, reminded both the prosecution and defense teams to consider nominating alternative spokespersons for their respective sides.
According to defense spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa, he must first consult with Vice President Duterte before making any decision regarding a potential change.
“I cannot decide by myself. It would be something that I will have to talk to the Vice President about,” he said
He also assured that, in case there will be a new spokesperson to be appointed soon, that will be introduced to the public.
“We’ll let you know and kung mayroon mang bago na magtatayong spokesperson, definitely, we’ll introduce him or her to the media,” Poa said
Poa admitted that he is struggling in his dual roles — as spokesperson and as an active member of the legal team.
If ever there will be a new spokesperson to be appointed, Poa said that an individual would need to be thoroughly briefed on the ongoing trial proceedings. This includes the information that can and cannot be disclosed in the media to avoid violating the sub judice rule and being cited for contempt.
Despite the potential shift, Poa said that there will be no changes in the strategy of the defense.
