Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala officially kicks off her European clay-court campaign this Tuesday, April 7, as she faces Austrian home bet Julia Grabher in the Round of 32 at the WTA 500 Linz Open.
Currently ranked World No. 46, the 20-year-old Eala enters the match as the higher-ranked player against the 29-year-old Grabher, who sits at No. 87.
This highly anticipated clash marks the first-ever meeting between the two on the WTA Tour, set to take place at 5:00 p.m. (PH time) on Linz's newly transitioned indoor clay courts.
The stakes are high for Eala in her Linz debut, as a victory would propel her into a challenging second-round encounter with fourth-seed and former Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko.
While Eala holds the edge in recent form and ranking, Grabher will have the distinct advantage of playing in front of a partisan home crowd.
Fans can expect a battle of styles, pitting Eala’s crafty left-handed baseline game against the veteran experience of the Austrian No. 1 in what promises to be a definitive start to the clay season.
